Belvedere House

Belvedere House

The beautifully proportioned Belvedere House commands a magnificent view from a hilltop above Lough Ennell and is a hidden gem that is worth a stop on your tours of Ireland. It was built in 1740 for Robert Rochfort , Lord Belfield , later the first Earl of Belvedere. The houses’s interiors have rococo plasterwork ceilings which are among their finest kind in Ireland.  Belvedere’s immaculate gardens fall away to formal terraces overlooking the lough.

There is a Gothic folly known as The Jealous Wall , built by Rochfort to hide the sight of his wealthier brother’s residence at nearby Tudenham Hall , and a walled garden with a fine collection of roses and hydrangeas.

Belvedere House is a must see on your Ireland tours.
