Blasket Islands , County Kerry

Two miles beyond Dunmore Head , the Westernmost tip of the peninsula , monstrous humps of rock with dizzying cliff faces rise from the sea among a multitude of lesser rocks and reefs. These are the Blasket Islands , scene of many shipwrecks over the centuries and once the home of a close-knit fishing and farming community. Since 1953 , they have been uninhabited. The largest island , Great Blasket , is 4 miles long , 1 mile wide and nearly 1000ft high at its peak.

The Blasket Islands are a real hidden gem and have some spectacular views , they are worth a visit on your Ireland tours.
