Castletown House is the first , and largest , Palladian-style country house in Ireland.

It is located in Cellbridge , County Kildare and worth seeing on any tours of Ireland.

The original design by Alessandro Galilei (1691-1737) influenced the architecture of Leinster House , and the White House in Washington D.C.

The building was commissioned in 1722 by William Connolly (1662-1729) , speaker of the Irish House of Commons , and its construction was overseen by Sir Edward Lovett Pearce.

Castletown House has been recently restored and furnished in period style.
