Lambeg Drum

Lambeg Drum

A handmade cylindrical drum , about three feet in diameter.

They are made from goatskin over an oak frame. The drum is played with canes.

The first recorded use was in the eighteenth century.

Associated with “Orange Order” bands , Lambeg drums were used by different organisations , including the “Ancient Order of Hibernians”

There are drumming competitions with Lambeg drums and the unique sound makes it worth listening to them on any tours of Ireland.
