Skibbereen , County Cork

Skibbereen , County Cork

Skibbereen is the centre of the South-West Cork peninsula or Carbery Coast and worth a look on any tours of Ireland. Its definitely a bit of a hidden gem.

In this region , the ravine around Leap (North of Glandore) and the coast road from Ross Carbery to Glandore are striking to see.

Roaringwater Bay , belying its name , is quietly attractive with the little fishing harbour of Skull (French lobster boats) and the village of Ballydehob set in some wild pockets of country ; see the coast scenery between Mizen Head and Three Castle Head.

In the bay, Sherkin Island is reached by motorboat from Baltimore , while Irish speaking Clear Island has a ferry from Baltimore.
