The West Cork Chamber Music Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary by programming some of the great landmarks in the chamber music repertoire. Among the works included will be Schubert’s Trout, Brahms’ Piano Quintet, Beethoven’s Archduke Trio, Mendelssohn’s Octet, Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet and Bach’s Violin Concertos. Lesser known works, for which the festival is famous, will also find their place in the nine day programme.
Among the world-class musicians appearing will be Alina Ibragimova, Viviane Hagner, Brett Dean, Barry Douglas, Natalie Clein, Lilli Maijala, Liana Gourdjia, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Alexander Melnikov, Peter Laul, Philippe Bernold, Peter Whelan, Cremona Quartet, Vanbrugh Quartet, Borodin Quartet, Signum Quartet and Benyounes Quartet. Sopranos Claire Booth and Maria Keohane join tenor James Gilchrist.
Young musicians have the opportunity to learn from international stars in masterclasses during the week while Ireland’s only violin and bow making exhibition runs for the duration of the festival.
