Drum, Aberdeenshire

Drum, Aberdeenshire

This castle is an interesting site in Aberdeenshire.

It’s a great stop on any tours of Scotland.

It consists of 13th Century Tower of Drum.

This is one of the very first and most famous of the medieval Scottish tower houses.

It was a royal keep in the ancient Forest of Drum and there was a reference to it as early as 1247.

It is a simple rectangle with battlements and rounded corners 70 feet tall.

The walls at the base are 12 feet thick.

The tower is linked to a handsome Renaissance mansion with dormer windows and crow stepped gables.

The mansion was built in 1619 and worth visiting.
