Enniscorthy Castle, County Wexford

This castle is situated in Enniscorthy, which is in County Wexford.

It is a great place to visit on any tours of Ireland.

There was once a wooden castle on the site.

But in 1203 the stone castle was built by the Philip De Prendergast and the Normans.

Its four thirteenth century towers are particularly interesting.

There is now a museum with artifacts ranging from Stone Age times right up to the present day.

Visit the dungeon to see the rare medieval wall art. –

Stand on the battlements of the castle to look at the stunning views of Vinegar Hill Battlefield.

There are also fantastic views of Enniscorthy town itself.

Also check out the nearby Tintern Abbey as that has an interesting history.
