This castle sits in Kircaldy.
It is an interesting stop on any tours of Scotland.
Definitely a bit of a hidden gem!
It was built by King James the Second in 1460.
Interestingly, it was the first castle-built Britain specifically designed for defence from firearms.
Of course it was also designed to defend the castle with firearms.
In 1470 the castle was given to Lord Sinclair.
It remained in that family until 1896.
Today the castle is in the guardianship of the Department of the Environment and is open to visitors.
Check out the Old Kirk which has a 16th century tower.
There is a church dating from 1807 attached to the Kirk.
Kircaldy also offers some beautiful parks for visitors, with spectacular flowers, shrubs, and lawns.
