Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland

This is a village in Banffshire , worth a stop on any tours of Scotland.

 

The sight of the long curving viaduct above the road is spectacular.

The headland and harbour are especially pretty.

The isolated rocks Three Kings , Bow Fiddle , Boar Crag , and Red Craig are all in view.

 

There may have been a royal castle near Cullen since 1327.

Now Cullen House is there dating from 1543 , with 386 rooms.

Great history as well as great scenery.

 

The existing old parish church is Saint Annes Aisle.

It dates from 1536.

There is a particularly fine sacrament house on the North wall.

 

Cullen is a true hidden gem and a fine place to visit when touring Scotland.

It is of course famous for Cullen Skink – which is a thick Scottish soup made of smoked haddock , potatoes , and onions.
