Achill Island, County Mayo

This is one of the largest of the islands off the West of Ireland.

It is connected to the mainland by a bridge across Achill Sound.

It is definitely worth visiting on any tours of Ireland.

The island is renowned for its magnificent cliffs.

There are three mountains on the island – Slievemore, Croaghaun, and Minawn.

They range from 1530 feet to 2204 feet in height.

Slievemore extends into the sea and is a mass of quartzite rock and mica.

Below are the Seal Caves which are beautiful.

Close to the old village of Slievemore are the remains of a dolmen and stone circles.

There is certainly some ancient history on the island.

Also, the village of Dooagh is quaint and picturesque.
