Achill Island is the largest island off the Irish coast has been connected to the mainland by bridge since 1888. The seaside resort if Doorgort is at the base of the Island’s highest point , Slievemore (2204ft).

There is a 2 mile sandy beach at Keel , bordered to the East by the spectacular Cathedral Rocks. Nearby Dooagh and Keem strands are sheltered by Moyteoge Head , a good spot to begin an ascent of Croaghaun (2195ft).
