Adare, County Limerick

This is a village worth stopping at on any tours of Ireland.

The scones alone at the tourist centre are worth the visit.

The village sits on the Maigue River, which is good for salmon and trout fishing.

The nearby Adare Manor is a fine limestone building in Tudor style.

It is now a luxury hotel with a nine-hole golf course.

The Protestant Church, near the bridge, was the church of an Augustinian Abbey founded in 1306.

The Roman Catholic Church, near the entrance to the park, belonged to a Trinitarian Abbey founded in the thirteenth century.

Desmond Castle sits on the banks of the Maigue.

It is a large and imposing ruin.

The beautiful ruins of the Franciscan Abbey, founded in 1465, are in the park across the river.

So, an awful lot to see.
