01 Dec Annalong and the Silent Valley
On any tours of Ireland you may visit the Mourne Mountains. If you do you have a chance to view a couple of hidden gems …… Annalong and the Silent Valley.
The small fishing harbour of Annalong ( Ath na Long – “Ford of the ships ) is a pleasantly relaxed seaside town during the summer , with a stony beach and “Slieve Binnion” providing a beautiful backdrop.
In the harbour , pleasure craft are tied up alongside the fishing boats and small trawlers. The whiff of their catch is intoxicating in its own way !
Just off the main road in Marine Park stands an early nineteenth cetury Cornmill , still in working order and open to visitors.
Inland a mile or so from Annalong , signposts point to the Silent Valley. This is where you will find Belfast and County Downs reservoir. The views are simply breathtaking.
These are accessible on Ireland tours , extended Belfast tours , and our cruise ship excursions.
