Applecross, Highland

This village sits on a peninsula between Loch Torridon and Loch Kishorn.

It is a nice place to visit on any tours of Scotland.

Applecross is, without doubt, a place of great scenic beauty.

It is uniquely situated and the views will impress you.

In 671 an Irish monk called Maelrubha founded a monastery here.

It lasted for around 100 years before being destroyed by the Vikings.

There are many churches on the Isle of Skye and around northern Scotland dedicated to Maelrubha.

The remains of a pre-reformation church are worth looking at.

Especially for the nine feet Celtic Cross in the cemetery.

The views of Raasay and the mountains of the Isle of Skye are spectacular.

The area around Applecross is one of the earliest settled parts of Scotland.

The nearby coastal settlement of Sand is a major archaeological site.
