Ayr, South Ayrshire

This is a nice town on the West coast in Ayrshire, Scotland.

It is a great stop for golfers on any tours of Scotland.

Ayr had a charter from the 13th century issued by William the Lion.

The Church of Saint John dates from that century, though the tower is possibly from a later date.

Take a look at Loudoun Hall which dates from 1534, and overlooks the harbour.

It is one of the oldest town houses in Scotland.

The Wallace Tower dates from 1832 and is of a Neo-Gothic style.

There are fantastic golf courses nearby, such as Prestwick, Troon, and Turnberry.

On a different level are the two miles of beaches.

Of course, Ayr is also the heart of “Burns Country” referencing the famous Scottish poet.
