This is near the town of Castlebar.
It is interesting and well worth looking at on any tours of Ireland.
Castlebar is situated on the Castlebar River connecting Lough Cullin with Castlebar Lough.
It is a great place for fishing.
Ballintober Abbey was founded in 1216 by Cathal, the King of Connaught.
It lies about 8 miles South of Castlebar.
The beautiful church has an early Gothic nave and a Transitional Norman choir.
Check out the groined roof of the choir.
Also interesting are the fantastic mouldings of the East windows.
South of the choir is a chapel with an interesting altar-tomb and a fine doorway.
