Blackwaterfoot, North Ayrshire

Blackwaterfoot, North Ayrshire

This is a very quiet hamlet on the south west side of Arran Island.
It is worth considering a visit on any tours of Scotland.
Blackwaterfoot is a true hidden gem.

On Drumadoon Bay , it is on the more Lowland half , there is golf and fishing available.
It looks over Kilbrennan Sound to Kintyre.

Take a look at Shiskine Church , where a crudely carved tombstone is said to mark the burial place of Saint Molaise.

Also make sure you see the Kings Cave , which is believed to have sheltered Robert the Bruce when he arrived on the island.
That same cave is associated with Fingal of the Ossianic Legend.
The cave was also used in the 18th century for meetings of the Kirk Session.

The area has Bronze Age relics in the form of a burial cairn surrounded by fifteen standing stones.
