19 Oct Carlingford , County Louth
This village would not be the top of many peoples list when on tours of Ireland….but it is worth a wee look !!!
It is the chief village of the Cooley Peninsula which has wooded hills overlooking Carlingford Lough to the Mountains of Mourne. You can clearly see the winding lanes and fields full of cattle and sheep.
Ravensdale forest park is worth a look as well.
Whilst Carlingford village is not as quaint as others but the massive castle overlooking the harbour is impressive.
The castle has a narrow gateway to allow just one horseman at a time and the tower house on the square remind you of its long history.
Visit Carlingford on your Ireland tours ….its a hidden gem and definitely worth a look !!
