Dingle, County Kerry

The Dingle Peninsula is remote, romantic, and beautiful.

But driving around the Peninsula is not for the faint hearted with seriously risky roads.

Slea Head drive and the Conor Pass are not for novice drivers in Ireland.

Best to let the experts at Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours take care of it!

At Slea Head men would have looked out to sea, and for centuries believed that there was nothing beyond the sea but the end of the world.

Of course, the Skellig Islands (off the coast) featured in the recent Star Wars movie – Episode V11 – The Force Awakens.

Do not miss the famous Beehive Huts on your tours of Ireland.

There is also Minard Castle, Gallarus Oratory, and Dun Beag (a promontory fort sadly damaged by the storms and now somewhat unsafe)

The town of Dingle is often described as the “last parish” before America.

Throughout the Middle Ages Dingle was a prosperous port trading with Spain.

The 1804 parish church occupies the site of a much older structure.

A Geraldine tablet to a Knight of Kerry can be seen in the transept.

The graveyard features a carved Desmond tomb from 1540.

Dingle also has an impressive natural harbour with a resident Dolphin (Fungi).

It’s a great place to visit for a few days on any tours of Ireland.
