Dunkeld, Perthshire

This is a delightful little town in Perthshire.

A great place to visit on any tours of Scotland.

 

The first monastery here is said to have been founded before 700 AD.

 

There are substantial remains of a majestic medieval cathedral dating from 1318.

The cathedral took almost two centuries to build.

 

The surrounding countryside is spectacular.

 

Beyond the town are the wooded slopes of Newtyle and Craigiebarns.

Both are over 900 feet high.

 

Across the river stands Craig Vinean and Birnham Hill, both over 1200 feet high.

 

There is superb fishing here on the river Tay.
