Dunluce Castle

Dunluce Castle

Dunluce Castle is perched on a great crag overlooking the sea.

It once belonged to the Madevilles , a French family who took the Irish sounding name of McQuillans and held it until Sorley Boy MacDonnell captured it by a ruse.

In the mid-seventeenth century Sorley Boy’s decendants , the Earls of Antrim , abandoned Dunluce and allowed to fall into the picturesque decay that you see today.

There is an interesting etching in one of the stones , made by a sentry many years ago , that looks all the world like a viking ship…but is said to be a 15th Century galley. You can decide !!!!

There are subterrainean tunnels to hide in and escape.

On any tours of Ireland Dunluce castle is a must see attraction.

Ireland Luxury Tours are one of the few operators to visit Dunluce Castle regularly  down its winding entrance.

Why not visit on one of our extended Belfast tours if your cruise ship is visiting.
