Howth Castle, County Dublin

Howth Castle, County Dublin

This is a fine baronial mansion erected in 1564 by the twentieth Lord of Howth.

It is worth visiting on any tours of Ireland.

The great feature of the castle is the Armorial Hall.

It has many antiquities and relics on display.

There are many fine paintings also.

It is in this hall that the sword of Sir Amoricus Tristram, the first Lord of Howth, is housed.

This is a superb example of a two-handed sword.

The hilt is nearly two feet long.

There are also some fantastic pieces of armour to see.

The grounds of the castle are famous for the gardens, and in particular the Rhododendrons.

There are also the remains of the ancient Corr Castle in the grounds.
