01 Dec Huntly, Aberdeenshire
This town is in Aberdeenshire and can be easily accessed on any tours of Scotland.
Huntly owes its existence to the Gordon family and has a history of linen and woollen manufacturing.
The town is surrounded by pleasant hills.
It’s a pleasant place to visit.
But the real hidden gem to see is the castle !
Huntly Castle is an epitome of the Scottish castle from the earliest Norman fortress to the palace of the 17th century.
The green mound of the Norman Motte rises high above the river.
The castle has enormously thick walls and a Medieval Keep.
The great Renaissance Palace built by the first Marquis of Huntly in 1597 is now without a roof.
Outstanding features include carved windows and doorways.
At Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours we really enjoy allowing our clients to explore these hidden gems which are off the beaten track.
