31 May Kanturk , County Cork
Kanturk is another little hidden gem for any tours of Ireland.
Kanturk is 35 miles Northwest of Cork if you are in the area on Ireland tours.
It is a market town at the meeting of the Dalua and Allow rivers and a little south of the town are the ruins of Kanturk Castle , also known as MacDonaghs Court.
According to tradition MacDonagh MacCarthy , the local Irish chief , began to build the house in 1609. However jealous English settlers complained about its size and the English Privy Council forbade its completion. An enraged MacCarthy is said to have scattered the blue glass tiles for the roof and the house still stands unfinished.
