Kilkenny, County Kilkenny

This is such an impressive town and well worth a visit.

A great stop on any tours of Ireland.

It sits at the base of the Slieveardagh Hills, and on the banks of the River Nore.

Kilkenny Castle is a great place to visit and walk around the expansive grounds.

That was built by William le Mareschal in 1192.

It went on to be the seat of the Butlers of Ormonde.

Kytelers Inn is the oldest building in Kilkenny, dating back to the fourteenth century.

The interiors date from the seventeenth century.

Also look at Saint Canices Cathedral, which is the second largest church in Ireland.

It was originally part of a Romanesque Abbey.

Check out the round tower and the ancient gravestones.

There are also the remains of a Franciscan Friary to see.
