Kintore, Aberdeenshire

This is a tiny former Royal Burgh in Aberdeenshire.

It is an interesting stop on any tours of Scotland.

Kintore dates as far back as 854 with a triumph over Norse invaders.

Hallforest Castle was built around 1309 after the forest was granted by Robert Bruce to Sir Robert de Keith.

The keep was substantial.

The great oblong walls had walls seven feet thick.

Tw lofty barrel-vaults, one on top of the other, were each subdivided to make four storeys.

These storeys contained the cellar, kitchen, and hall.

The castle was inhabited until 1639, but is now a very precarious ruin.

Check out the handsome old Town House built around 1740.

Also make sure you see Balbithan Castle.

This is a very interesting castellated building constructed in 1667.

It is still occupied.
