14 Mar Lambey Island , Ireland
Lambey Island is a large island off the North Dublin coast. You will see it on a clear day when in Dublin on any Ireland tours.
“Colm Cille” is said to have founded a church , of which no trace remains.
Recent excavations have shown that the island was inhabited as far back as the Stone Age when flint and stone for axes were quarried…… making it a bit of a hidden gem.
Roman remains were uncovered not far from the harbour in 1927 , suggesting the presence of traders or settlers from Britain in the first centuries after Christ.
The island is privately owned and not accessible to the public unfortunately.
But it is another piece of Irish history to be aware of on any tours of Ireland.
