Malahide Ireland: The Perfect End to a Luxury Tour of Ireland

Malahide is one of our favourite places to finish a private tour of Ireland.

This attractive coastal village combines sea views, excellent restaurants and pubs, a historic castle and a relaxed atmosphere while remaining conveniently close to Dublin Airport.

At Ireland & Scotland Luxury Tours, we often arrange a final night here before clients fly home the following morning.

Stay at The Grand Hotel Malahide

One hotel we regularly use is
The Grand Hotel Malahide.

The hotel has been part of Malahide’s seaside story since the 19th century and enjoys an excellent location overlooking the coast.

Its combination of comfort, location and easy access to Dublin Airport makes it particularly suitable for the final night of a longer Ireland itinerary.

Enjoy Malahide’s Coastal Setting

Malahide sits beside the Irish Sea and has a very different atmosphere from central Dublin.

The marina, shoreline and estuary provide excellent opportunities for a relaxing walk, particularly after several days of travelling around Ireland.

Rather than finishing a holiday with another full day of driving, clients can enjoy the village, have a good dinner and begin their journey to the airport refreshed the following morning.

Pubs and Restaurants in Malahide

Despite its relaxed village feel, Malahide has an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants.

For a traditional Irish pub experience,
Gibney’s of Malahide
is one of the best-known names in the village.

Gibney’s has been part of Malahide since 1937 and remains a popular place for food, drinks and a lively local atmosphere.

Visit Malahide Castle

The major historic attraction is
Malahide Castle and Gardens.

The history of the estate stretches back to the 12th century, after King Henry II granted the lands of Malahide to Richard Talbot in 1185.

The Talbot family remained closely connected with Malahide Castle for almost 800 years, making it one of Ireland’s most fascinating historic homes.

Over the centuries the original stronghold was repeatedly expanded and altered, creating the mixture of medieval and later architecture that visitors see today.

Explore the Gardens

The castle is surrounded by extensive parkland and gardens, so it is worth allowing considerably more time than simply taking a tour of the house.

The estate covers around 260 acres and includes landscaped grounds, botanical collections and peaceful walking routes.

For anyone interested in gardening, history or simply spending time outdoors, it is an excellent addition to a visit to Malahide.

Butterfly House and Fairy Trail

Malahide Castle is also particularly suitable for families.

Within the grounds visitors can explore the Butterfly House, which contains exotic butterflies among tropical planting.

There is also a Fairy Trail through the woodland, making the estate an easy destination to include when travelling with children.

Why We Like Finishing a Tour in Malahide

After travelling through Dublin, Kerry, Galway, Northern Ireland or further afield, Malahide gives clients an opportunity to slow down.

You can take a walk beside the sea, visit the castle, enjoy a good meal and spend your final evening in a traditional Irish pub without being far from the airport.

It is a simple detail, but good tour planning is often about making the beginning and end of a journey as enjoyable as the headline attractions in between.

Include Malahide in Your Private Tour of Ireland

At Ireland & Scotland Luxury Tours, we create bespoke itineraries based around the pace and interests of our clients.

Malahide can work as a relaxing final stop, a base near Dublin or simply an enjoyable destination in its own right.
