Mount Stewart Gardens, by Michael Dibb

Mount Stewart Gardens, County Down

These gardens surround a grand residence in County Down, Northern Ireland.

They are a must see if you are that direction on any tours of Ireland.

Mount Stewart was bought in 1744 by Alexander Stewart.

The house has been in continuous family ownership.

The gardens were designed by Lady Londonderry (Edith)

She started in 1919.

They are currently maintained by the National Trust.

There are eighty acres to see, including a lake.

The frostless micro climate of the peninsula allows many rare plants to flourish.

There is also the “Temple of the Winds” to see.

That is a building above the shore of Strangford Lough designed in 1783.

At Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours we are always amazed by the fantastic Rhododendrons.
