Saint Abbs, Berwickshire

Saint Abbs, Berwickshire

St. Abbs, Berwickshire
This is a quaint fishing village worth a stop on any tours of Scotland.

It has a beautiful sandy beach and a magnificent coastline.

There is an important lighthouse dating from 1861 standing on St Abbs head.

Near the lighthouse are the last traces of an early Christian foundation.

This dates from 640 AD and was dedicated to Saint Ebba.

On Kirk Hill there are the scanty ruins of a 14t century chapel.

There is even evidence of a Roman presence.

Nearby are the ruins of Fast Castle.

This was a sea fortress 70 feet above sea level.

The castle was the stronghold of “Logan of Restalrig”.

It’s quite a spectacular setting.
