This is a town in Lanarkshire, Scotland.

It is a good stopping point if passing through that area.

A nice town with a few hidden gems to see.

 

Strathaven was once a major weaving town and still retains some manufacture of knitwear.

 

Strathaven Castle is believed to have been built around the 1350s by the Bairds.

It was sacked around 1455 and little of the early castle remains.

 

Dungavel House has a very interesting history.

It was once a shooting lodge of the Duke of Hamilton.

During the First World War it was a naval hospital

 

Each year in August the town holds a Balloon Festival.

This is the only hot air ballooning event of its kind in Scotland.
