The Fore Valley , County Westmeath
East of Castlepollard towards the Meath border , the Fore Valley is an area of exceptional natural beauty , and well worth a look on any Ireland tours. It is a real hidden gem with great Irish myth !!
The Seven Wonders of Fore are supposedly all based on quite ordinary things which you can find in the valley , but in this perhaps lies the lasting strength of their reputation.
The Seven Wonders are :
The water that will not boil.....
The wood that will not burn.....
The monastery built on a quaking sod......
The mill without a race........
The miraculous emplacement of the lintel stone above the door of St Fechin's Church......
The water that flows uphill.....
and
The Anchorite's Cell in the Greville-Nugent family vault.......
Have a wee look on your tours of Ireland and see if you can find them all !!!!!
