14 Feb Alyth, Perthshire
This is a town in Perthshire, Scotland.
It is an interesting hidden gem on any tours of Scotland.
The town was created a burgh in 1488.
There is a stream that runs right through the town.
Alyth stands on the edge of the moorland and from its border’s heather stretches all the way to Braemar.
Arches still standing in the old kirkyard are connected with the post-Reformation church.
But they are probably the site of a much older church.
Near the town are the ruins of Bamff Castle, which was a Ramsay stronghold.
Also check out the spectacular Reekie Linn waterfall.
At nearby Barry Hill, Queen Guinevere, the wife of King Arthur, was imprisoned by the Scots and the Picts.
All that remains of this vitrified fort are a massive tumbled stone wall and subsidiary ramparts.
