Now this is a real hidden gem on any tours of Ireland !!!!
Tory Island is off the coast of County Donegal and has approx 120 inhabitants.
The island is often cut off from the mainland for weeks on end by winter storms.
It takes its name from the cliffs , or Tors , battered by the Atlantic waves.
In the summer the population swells to around 300 people for the salmon fishing and when the school children return from studies on the mainland.
Saint Columbcille founded a monastery on Tory Island and its round tower and cross still remain.
