12 Jun Skerries , County Dublin
This seaside town takes its name from the rock islands which lie off the coast: Red Island , now joined to the mainland , site of Ireland’s first holiday camp ; Colt Island ; and St. Patrick’s Island , where the Saint is said to have landed on his way from Wicklow to Ulster. South are Shenick’s Island , site of a Martello tower , and Rockabill , crowned with a lighthouse , further out to sea.
The Skerries are a hidden gem and are worth a visit on your Ireland tours.
