27 Jan Carrick-On-Shannon
This is the county town of Leitrim.
Our driver/guides often pass through on our chauffeur driven tours of Ireland.
The town has some fine Georgian houses and shop fronts.
They are a real throwback to old Ireland.
Costello Chapel can be found at the top end of Bridge Street.
It was built in 1877 and is supposedly the second smallest chapel in the world.
Businessman Edward Costelloe had it erected as a memorial to his young wife.
He is buried next to her in a matching lead coffin, now protected under glass.
(It is a very similar story to the Kylemore Abbey love tale)
These are the real hidden gems of Ireland that the coach tours avoid (not enough kickbacks for them)
