Aboyne, Highlands

Aboyne Castle, By Stanley Howe

Aboyne, Highlands

This is a village on the edge of the Highlands.

It is worth visiting to see the castle alone , on any tours of Scotland.

But there are a few hidden gems around the village.

The first Aboyne Castle dates from the 13th Century.

That was replaced by a stone keep.

Then in the 17th Century a tower house was built.

The mansion house was built in 1801 then transformed in the 1880s by Sir Cunliffe Brooks.

A foundation stone on display in the castle dates from 800 AD with interesting carvings.

When in Aboyne also look at the War Memorial and Victory Hall.

There is Saint Thomas’s Episcopal Church to see as well.
