Aberchirder, known locally as Foggieloan or Foggie (which means mossy field), is a quaint village in Aberdeenshire.
Its attraction on any tours of Scotland is its castle and the views.
The village was founded in 1764 and is laid out in three long parallel streets gradually sloping down from a hilltop.
There is a town square about a third of the way down.
As I said its very quaint.
At the Bridge of Marnoch sits Kinnairdy Castle.
The castle is an L shaped tower house.
It was lovingly restored by Sir Thomas Innes of Learney.
Nearby is an ancient graveyard worth seeing.
There are also the remains of a pre-Reformation kirk (church) dedicated to Saint Marnan.
It’s a nice little stop for coffee and scones, and our driver/guides at Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours enjoy it as much as our clients.
