04 Mar Beaufort Castle, Inverness-Shire
This castle stands near the town of Beauly in Inverness-shire, Scotland.
It’s a great option on any tours in that area.
The castle, the priory, and the town are all interesting.
Beaufort Castle was the historic seat of the Lords Lovat.
It was built in 1880 in the Scots “baronial style”.
Their previous residence was Castle Dounie, built around 1400, with some remains still present.
Nearby is the priory of Beauly.
This was founded by Sir John Bisset of Lovat in 1230.
All that remains is a roofless shell of the church, but you can feel the history as you walk around.
It’s easy to imagine the colony of monks living there.
So, when up around Inverness take in some Norman/Scottish history.
At Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours we usually base our clients in Culloden House Hotel.
That’s only a 15-mile drive away from Beauly.
