02 Feb Carrantuohill , Ireland
If on Ireland tours , and in County Kerry , you will see Carrantuohill.
It is Ireland’s highest mountain at 3,414 ft or 1,039 metres.
Situated in MacGillycuddys Reeks (what a great name) , it is made up mostly of coarse-grained sandstone.
The name Carrantuohill derives from the Gaelic “Carran Tuathaill” , meaning the reversed sickle , because its crescent of jagged rocks is facing inward rather than outward.
Its a popular climb if you are feeling energetic on your tours of Ireland , and is approached from a rocky gully called “The Devil’s Ladder”
