Cawdor, Inverness, Highlands

Cawdor is a village near Inverness in the Highlands.

It is an interesting stop on any tours of Scotland.

Cawdor Castle was made famous by William Shakespeare.

It featured in MacBeth way back then.

It is a traditional Scottish castle.

The castle keep, as we see it now dates from 1454.

That was when a royal licence was granted to the Thane of Cawdor to erect and fortify the castle.

But other parts of the castle may have been built much earlier.

Alterations to the castle were made in the 16th century.

These include larger windows for the keep.

Further alterations took place in the 17th century and even the 19th century.

Check out the drawbridge, the iron yet, and the notable gardens.
