08 Aug Durrow
Durrow is in County Offaly and a hidden gem on any Ireland tours.
It was founded as a Monastery by St Colum Cille , most likely between 585 and 589 !
In his time it was administrated as part of the family of Iona and headed by a monk of Iona answerable to the Saint.
Later Durrow grew into a monastic town with a substantial secular population , so that already in 764 we read in the annals that 200 men of Durrow were killed in battle against another monastic town , Clonmacnoise.
Why not visit the monastic town of Durrow on your tours of Ireland.
