22 Mar Eire … the Irish name for Ireland
If you are on tours of Ireland you will come across the name “EIRE”…
It is the official name for Ireland in Irish , under the 1937 Constitution.
In 1937 the Eamon de Valera government replaced the 1922 constitution with Bunreacht na hEireann (the Constitution of Ireland) , which was endorsed by the people of the Irish Free State. Ireland was declared to be a sovereign, independent, and democratic state, and its name was changed from the Irish Free Stae to EIRE.
Eire was used until the Republic of Ireland Act (passed in December 1948 and came into effect in April 1949). This officially declared Ireland a Republic.
Ireland tours will invariably use terms like Eire and now you know what it means.
