22 Jul Errigal Mountain, Donegal
At 2466 feet tall Errigal is the tallest peak in the ice carved Donegal highlands.
With its furrowed sides and white screes of broken quartz, it is by far, the finest of all conical mountains in Ireland.
The hard quartzite rock is in contradiction to the softer granites and shales.
Nice to see on any tours of Ireland.
There are two tops to Errigal (about a quarter of a mile apart) and between them runs the narrow “One Man’s Path” – not for the faint hearted.
The highest point is no bigger than a small table top but the view is gloriously wild.
Immediately below are the immense tracts of rolling moorland, the Poisoned Glen, and the Slieve Snacht range.
Beyond are the many lakes and hills of Donegal, and the lovely indented coastline.
Knocklayd in Antrim, and Benbulben in Sligo, are hints on the horizon.
Take a trip with Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours to see Donegal, and of course Errigal Mountain.
