Inversnaid, Scotland

This is a small rural community on the banks of Loch Lomond in Scotland.

The West Highland Way passes through Inversnaid.

At Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours, we find it interesting for a number of reasons.

There are splendid views of the so called Arrochar Alps.

These mountains consist of Ben Vorlich, Ben Vane, The Cobbler, and Ben Ime.

The tallest is Ben Ime at 3318 feet.

There is a beautiful walk along the new forest road.

Fascinatingly along this route is Rob Roy’s Prison, at the very foot of Ben Lomond.

It was there that Rob Roy is said to have held any vassal requiring punishment.

There is also Rob Roy’s Cave on the shore of Loch Lomond which he used as a safe haven.

Nearby is the farmstead still known as the Garrison.

This incorporates the remains of the barracks built about 1720, after the 1715 rising.
