11 May Meigle, Perthshire
This is a Scottish village in Perthshire, Scotland.
It has something different for you to see on any tours of Scotland.
Meigle has the most outstanding collection of early Christian Pictish sculptured stones in Scotland.
These are housed in the old schoolhouse, which is now a museum.
All the stones were found in the vicinity of Meigle.
They point to an early Celtic religious foundation existing there.
The finest of the twenty-five stones is a magnificent cross slab.
This cross is eight feet high.
The carvings are based on Daniel in the Lion’s Den.
Nearby is the site of a Roman fort at Cardean.
