Mount Usher Garden, County Wicklow

Mount Usher Garden, County Wicklow

This is one of the great gardens of Ireland in Ashford, County Wicklow.

It is noted for trees and shrubs from all parts of the world.

The garden is a true hidden gem, and not many tourists are aware of it.

It is well worth visiting on any tours of Ireland.

The beginning of Mount Usher goes back to 1860 when Edward Walpole saw the possibilities of the land surrounding an old corn mill in the Varty Valley.

He founded the gardens.

There are rare trees to see such as the “Pinus Montezumae” from the borders of Mexico and Guatemala.

The Beech trees are exceptional with species such as “Picea Breweriana”.

Camellias and Rhododendrons are all around and the colours are spectacular.

There is colour all year round in the garden.
