31 Mar The Cathach……an Irish manuscript
On tours of Ireland you will certainly pass through Dublin.
If you do , why not visit a real hidden gem….The Cathach
It is Irelands oldest manuscript. Written around 600 , possibly by the hand of St Colm Cille.
The Cathach ( or “battler” ) Psalter is now preserved in the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin.
The enlarged initial letters of the Psalms were ornamented in monochrome with crosses , spirals , and fish.
On Ireland tours , or if in Belfast , and on one of our extended Belfast tours , the Cathach is worth a thought.
