The castle has been the home of the Pakenham family since 1655.
The walls are 10 feet thick in the main building.
There is an impressive Gothic façade of towers and turrets.
It is a very large and spectacular castle retaining much of its Regency and early Victorian atmosphere.
The grounds include fine oak trees and beech trees.
The parkland surrounding the castle is open to the public.
There is a great connection to the Duke of Wellington and his brother-in-law “Sir Edward Packenham” served with him.
